The language, championed by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) and which was a top legislative priority for CSH, was included in S. 2162, comprehensive legislation addressing the mental health care needs of veterans. $15 million will be available in Fiscal Year 2009 (FY 09), $20 million in FY10 and $25 million in FY11. The grants will allow organizations to provide a range of supportive services including case management, assistance obtaining benefits, health care, employment assistance and more, with an emphasis on homeless veterans who are transitioning into permanent housing.
